There are several stories as to who invented the Margarita. Was it Santos Cruz, head bartender at the historic Balinese Room in Galveston, Texas, who created the Margarita by modeling it after the Sidecar? Was the Margarita developed by Margaret (Margarita) Sames at her home in Acapulco? Or did Carlos “Danny” Herrera, bartender at the Rancho La Gloria bar, come up with the Margarita for an actress and showgirl Marjorie King, whose stage name Rita De La Rosa? We will leave it up to you to decide, but we are grateful to all those who conceptualized The Original Margarita and to those who continue to develop innovative spins on the classic! Learn more.
